The Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth

Does anyone tell the truth anymore? Bill didn't sleep with that girl. George was going to fire anyone who outed Valerie. Raphael did not use steroids. Who can we believe? We are to the point that when some people talk, we should assume they are lying. Politicians lie. Crooks lie. Who else lies? How do you tell when someone is lying to you? It's hard sometimes. Some people are very good at it.

I'm pretty sure my friends don't lie to me? I'm real sure as a matter of fact. They told me I was a dumb ass once, and I was! They are a pretty straight forward bunch of guys. When I say guys I don't mean they are all men, they are just the guys! One of them looks pretty good for a guy! Anyway, they are a great group, but you had better not ask for their opinion if you don't actually want it! Come to think of it, we usually don't wait to be asked! They are a great bunch of people.

We have tried to teach the kids that it's easier to tell the truth and take your lumps then it is to lie and get buried in it. So far, so good. I'm sure they have with the little things, here's to hoping it is all in the past, and we don't have to worry about it anymore. I don't think it would be much fun to have a kid that you couldn't believe what they told you, and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate me as their father for the way I would fix the problem!

Is lying a sickness, kind of like the flu? Can you catch it? Is it contagious? Are some people carriers? That would stink to go through life and be a liar and not be able to help it. Do you think some people can't help it, or do they just get used to it? I think some people have lied for so long they have forgotten how to tell the truth. I wonder what else they have forgotten?

I think that lying has been around from the beginning of time, all the way back to when Adam & Eve lied about who ate the apple.

I believe it has become more of a problem as the “ME” generation grows up. The “ME” generation has helped lying evolve more into self promotion as opposed to getting yourself out of trouble.

Everything they say and do is aimed at self promotion. Nothing for the good of the team unless it is good for them also. They try to paint themselves in a favorable light all the time and their stories grow to the point that they take on their own life.

Look at George O’Leary, he is the guy that lied about his athletic and academic accomplishments on his resume to get hired as the head football coach at Notre Dame. He is now entering his 5th season as head coach at the University of Central Florida . Believe it or not in his bio it is still listed that he was named head coach at Notre Dame in 2001. He still embraces that!!

I think we have to take everything with a grain of salt.

We have tried to impress our children with the importance of telling the truth. I hope it has sunk in.

You and Jackie have done a fabulous job with Jake and Katie. Sit back, relax and reap the rewards! I believe lying is a born trait - you either have (to do) it, or you don't. You must have passed on good genes.
