Colts-Ravens, The Boy Choosing a Career, and Goes To Watch Game With Friends

Football night, get big or go home. The Ravens beat New England last week, so sad, for them! Time to beat the football team from Indianapolis. A lot of people can't bring themselves to call them the Colts, since they used to be here, I'm not one of them. I've got enough going on in my life that a ball team leaving is pretty far down the list. I get excited about the guys coming over to watch, and I hope they win, but win or lose, I'm still me, and gots miles to go before I sleep.

The boy is in the process of trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life, something I still haven't done. He loves the idea of working at the bowling alley, and they seem to love him, so a good fit. The problem is when you have days like today. He wants to be home to watch the game, he loves watching it with my friends, or his, but he is working tonight. We have told him to get used to it, if this is the career he chooses. I wouldn't want to go through that again.

The boy also called to find out if it was OK for him to go to a party to watch the game. The wife told him no, but I said yes, almost 18 years old I'd of wanted to be out where the action was. I called him and let him off hook, sent him with his gang. We spend time together, doesn't need to be a Saturday night during the playoffs. The fact he likes to spend time with me is enough, he's a great young man, and I love him, his sister too, both great kids.

Kate - You can be?

Libby - She did it for me, I got to be the hero! I take those moments when I get them.

Good call on letting the boy go to the party. It's tough. Moms worry, that's all. I'm sure he knows he won't always get a "yes" to a request, but now, he can trust your decisions because they're solid and true and not based on some bs parental power trip. My "boy" of 30 lives in Baltimore--I find text messages from him every once in a while when he's in the middle of having fun somewhere--like, at 1:00 am--i'ts very, very cool when they stop thinking you're a complete idiot, like who you are, and share their lives with you. Sounds like you brought up a good kid. Good for you. Enjoy it.

Linda - Thanks, he and his sister are my greatest achievement. As far as the idiot part, his phone wasn't working today, he couldn't send me text messages, just me! We'll laugh about it someday, just not today.
